ROUND one of the Dandenong District Cricket Association’s season came to a close on Saturday, with some surprise results across the divisions.
Reigning premier Berwick suffered a shock loss to Buckley Ridges while the newly promoted Hallam-Kalora Park had an ideal start to its Turf One campaign.
All games were completed on the weekend after a number were postponed the week before due to ground conditions.

@BT Sub Sport News:Berwick v Buckley Ridges

Buckley Ridges shocked the reigning premier Berwick, chasing down the home side’s 228 with eight overs to spare at Arch Brown Reserve.
Paul Rudd (49) and William Buttler (82) combined for a 110-run third-wicket partnership but the team was left at 3/137 when Rudd fell and the dismissal triggered a middle-order collapse.
Buckley Ridges quickly found itself at 9/186, but a half-century to Ben Watson (50 not out) and a superb defensive effort from number 11 Westley Nicholas (7 not out) guided the team past Berwick’s total.
For Berwick, James Prendergast led the bowling with 4/34 off 13 overs and Will Carr was also dangerous with 3/36 off 14 overs.

@BT Sub Sport News:Hallam-Kalora Park v Doveton

Hallam-Kalora Park took the points against Doveton in the side’s first knock in Turf One competition since being promoted at the end of last season.
The reigning Turf Two premiers set Doveton 290 to claim first innings points but the Doves could only manage 219 off 69 overs.
Shaun Tongue led the scoring with 46 for the Doves and was well supported by captain Brad Downe (44) and Matt Hutchinson (34) but the side lacked other contributors throughout the order.
Hallam-Kalora Park’s Lee Brown was the star of the day, taking 7/76 off 25.1 overs, including the key wickets of Downe, Hutchinson and Tongue.

@BT Sub Sport News:Narre Warren v Keysborough

Narre Warren backed up its sensational 7/413 on day one with a clinical bowling display, helping the side to victory over Keysborough.
David Wheeler ripped through Keysborough’s top order on Saturday morning, allowing just 11 runs between the top three batsmen.
Wheeler finished with figures of 4/25 from the first innings as Keysborough limped to 104 off 46 overs.
Forced to follow-on, Keysborough put up a better fight in the second innings, with Nalin Wijesinghe knocking up a classy 49 but it was in vain as Narre Warren won first innings points.

@BT Sub Sport News:Cranbourne v North Dandenong

Cranbourne and North Dandenong played a one-dayer after the game was postponed on the opening weekend of the season, and North Dandenong took the points thanks to some efficient batting.
Cranbourne opener Jason Hameeteman set the pace with 69 and had some good support from Dean McDonell (39) and captain Ross Woodall (36), helping the side to 5/164 after its 40 overs.
But North Dandenong hauled the total in with seven balls to spare, thanks to a commanding 62 from Carman Mapatuna, and 48 to Shane Leonard.
Cranbourne’s Kyle Brooke was the pick of the bowlers, picking up 2/21 off eight overs.

Springvale South v HSD

Last season’s runner-up HSD took first innings points against Springvale South after the side easily chased down the home team’s 109 at Alex Nelson Reserve.
HSD captain James Van Elewoud resumed the day at 91 not out and he quickly reached triple figures, eventually falling for 106.
Van Elewoud had little support through the order except for James Alexander at number eight, who reached 39 before being bowled by Ben Goodey.
Goodey was the highlight in Springvale South’s otherwise disappointing game, with stunning figures of 8/55 off 21 overs, preventing the game from being a blow-out.
HSD was all out for 209, and Springvale South made it to 4/123 in its second innings, with Peter Ryan scoring a half-century.

@BT Sub Sport News:Dandenong West v Fountain Gate

Set 169 to take first innings points, Fountain Gate resumed play on 6/44 after an Andrew Harry hat-trick destroyed the top order on day one of play.
The feat would prove a fatal blow to Fountain Gate, as the side struggled to 82 off 35.1 overs, handing Dandenong West first innings points.
Nathan Goodes handled Fountain Gate’s tail, taking the final four wickets to finish with figures of 4/30 off 14.1 overs.
A blistering second-wicket partnership between Matthew Sofoulis (64 not out) and David Weerden (100 not out) got Dandenong West to 1/196 in the second innings before stumps were called.

@BT Sub Sport News:Mordialloc v Hampton Park

Mordialloc overhauled Hampton Park’s total of 8/201 with three wickets to spare at Booth Reserve on Saturday.
Batting at number seven, Matthew Campbell guided his side to victory with a steadying 48 after the top order failed to post any big scores.
Chris Bateman was the pick of the bowlers for Hampton Park with 3/53 off 13 overs, and Daniel Redfern bowled tidily, taking 2/38 off 19 overs.
Young Englishman Jonathan Rudge picked up 1/45 off 14 overs in his first run with his new team.

@BT Sub Sport News:Maranatha Methodist v Lyndale

Played as a one-dayer after being postponed a week earlier, Maranatha Methodist and Lyndale played out a gripping encounter, with the former eventually taking the points.
Sent in to bat first, Lyndale fought its way to 9/193 with a number of batsmen providing solid contributions.
Robert Barber (34) top scored, and had good support from captain Ben Montgomery (33) and Aaron O’Dath (31).
Paul Goodchild starred with the ball, taking 3/16 off eight overs.
In reply, Nathan Monk (64 not-out) guided Maranatha Methodist to 4/196, after an 87-run partnership between Shane Goldfinch (46) and captain/coach Brett Brnst (40) kicked the chase off in style.

@BT Sub Sport News:Buckley Ridges v Berwick

Also played as a one-dayer, the Buckley Ridges/Berwick clash emulated the two sides’ Turf One clash, with Buckley Ridges getting the win in a close encounter.
Buckley Ridges won the toss and batted first, and solid contributions right across the board helped the side to 8/240 off 40 overs, with William Brown’s 51 the standout knock.
In reply Berwick reached 5/224 off its 40 overs, despite two big knocks from Ryan Crawford (71) and Brad James (63).
