Extra police to ride the rails

CASEY commuters will see a step towards a safer public transport system after the State Government announced the appointment of 100 extra transit police on trains, trams and buses.
The new officers will take Victoria Police’s transit division to 350 police dedicated solely to the safety of passengers.
In addition to the transit police commitment, last week Victoria Police announced that 600 frontline police would be allocated across Victoria by 30 June.
South Eastern Metropolitan MP Inga Peulich said one of the most important issues Casey residents have contacts her office about was the rise of violent and anti-social behaviour.
“The boost in transit police numbers will send a clear message to the Casey community that anti-social behaviour and violence will not be tolerated,” she said.
“This will be one stage of combating that behaviour and to ensure that our public transport network is safe for every Casey resident to use.”
