ROTARY Casey president elect Harry Hutchinson might feel slightly outnumbered on the committee this year, as women get set to rule the board.
Well known Berwick businessman Mr Hutchinson will be backed by an entirely female committee, when he takes over from current Casey Rotary president Trevor Fry, later this month.
The Rotary Casey is thought to be one of the first groups in the state to have a predominantly female board.
After its start at the start of last year, Rotary Casey has adopted a modern approach toward the tradition of Rotary.
This approach is emphasised through the female-dominated committee coming through.
Mr Hutchinson agreed that the majority women board is typical of Casey’s approach to Rotary.
“It’s a really good thing,” Harry said.
“I attended a rotary conference and most of what our club is doing is where Rotary sees the direction going.”
He also mentioned the many benefits associated with being supported by an all-women board.
“I am looking forward to it – women can really multi-task,” he said.
“Women will really get things done.”
One of the board members, Angela McPhee, a Berwick businesswoman, said it was merely by default that the group was majority female.
“It seems to have happened almost by accident,” she said.
Angela will be among eight ladies to support Harry when he takes over at the Rotary Changeover on 24 June this year.
A representative from Rotary Australia, Phillip Archer, said the scenario for Casey was very positive.
“It’s wonderful news and proves how well we are going,” he said.
“We strive to be reflective of our community – we are ahead of some businesses.”
Casey Rotary is one of the more recent rotary groups in the Casey area, and both Angela and Harry said how it strived to help the local community.
“We are modernising ideas and becoming more involved in the local community,” Harry said.
Angela said: “:Rotary has recognised the needs in our own community”.
“Rotary is an international organisation with a lot of international projects- but this board is keen to support as many local projects,” she said.
Casey Rotary is excited to host what is expected to be one of its biggest events next month – an Inaugural Art Show from 5 July until 7 July.
Entries close for the art show on 10 June.
