AUSTRALIAN championship gold is the aim for Endeavour Hills rising-star cyclist Georgia Cummings.
Cummings, 13, from Endeavour Hills, starred at the recently held Cycling Victoria Junior Track Championships, winning two silver and two bronze medals across the event.
Her results helped Cummings earn a spot in the Victorian team in the junior-15 women squad to take on the rest of Australia at the Cycling Australia Junior Track Championships in Sydney next month.
Cummings is in the team with her best friend, Berwick cyclist Alana Field, and Cummings will make it her aim to bring back national gold from the championships following a successful state track event earlier this month.
“I did pretty well, I got two silvers and two bronze medals,” Cummings said.
“Silver in the 500m, which I was pretty happy with as I’m usually not that good in the 500m, and I got silver in the pursuit which I was a little disappointed in, but because my team mate Alana beat me I was still happy for her.”
The summer cycling season has been productive for Cummings.
She finished second in the National Junior Track Series to Victorian team mate Sarah Gigante after leading the championship throughout the first three rounds.
“‘Cause it was my second time going away I was pretty keen to hit the boards again and race everyone as I didn’t get to race all the girls as they didn’t race at the National Junior Track Series where I came second to Sarah,” Cummings said.
“I was in the lead for the Sydney round, Melbourne round and Launceston round and I was really happy to finish second.
“Winning in Sydney – the atmosphere was better there and it was a quicker track and I won every single race except for one of them.”
Her aim is to win the individual pursuit but Cummings would be thrilled to pick up medals across the rest of her race meet.
“Hopefully, I’ll get to ride in all of them (races),” Cummings said.
“I was hoping to get gold in the individual pursuit – but I’d be happy to medal in every other race.”
Georgia’s older brother Jack is about to embark on his next cycling journey – signing with German squad Team Stuttgart for the upcoming European cycling season.
