HORRENDOUS conditions left a wet-weather scrap between Cranbourne and Melbourne Uni, with the Eagles emerging out of the slop with a six-point win.
Goals were rare as the ball – made evident by the 3.3 (21) to 2.3 (15) final scoreline- but Cranbourne was able to snatch two early goals and hold on to take the points.
From her first VWFL senior game for Cranbourne, Youth Girls champion Hayley Wildes showed her talents as best on field and scoring one of the crucial three goals for the Eagles.
Kirsten Macleod and Laura Robinson were the other Eagles to attack the scoreboard with majors while best afield were also Kerry Anderson, Lauren Hutchison and Brittany Wood.
It betters Cranbourne’s record to 3-2 and earns the south east’s highest ranked VWFL team a fourth placing in VWFL Division 1. The Eagles face Diamond Creek next Saturday at Plenty War Memorial Park.
Cranbourne’s reserves in Division 3/4 struggled against Deer Park – copping a 4.1 (25) to 10.12 (72) loss. Houda Sidani kicked two goals in the loss while Janet Sullivan was best afield.
VAFA – DIVISION 3
The X-Men could not stop the Northern Blues, which piled on eight goals in the final term to claim a 41-point win. Despite the best efforts of Dimi Dimakopoulos (four goals), Ben Spencer (four) and Brent Sheers (three) – the visitors’ resolve didn’t pool into a victorious amount. Sixth place is now where St Francis Xavier has to call home before its clash against Emmaus St Leos on 14 June.
