Grinding a new style in the suburbs

Andrew McTighe is providing an inner city coffee experience and quality products.

LYNBROOK Village might be the last place that would be expected as the home to a coffee house featuring recycled railway sleeper decor and a dreadlocked barista in a beanie.
But it’s a lifetime dream come true for couple Ana and Andrew McTighe, owners of Suburban Grind Cafe.
The long-time residents of the south-eastern suburbs wanted to bring the inner city coffee culture to the suburbs.
“We always found we had to drive into the city to enjoy a good brew at a quality coffee house,” Mr McTighe said.
“Here we were surrounded by local suppliers with fresh, fantastic produce but nowhere to showcase it.
“That’s why we opened Suburban Grind – to give locals an inner city coffee experience with quality products from their own backyard.”
Suburban Grind Cafe opened in July last year and has gained a reputation for divine coffee and delicious food.
The coffee beans, usually restricted to the most exclusive city cafes, come in two strengths to suit even the most discerning coffee connoisseur.
They are prepared to perfection by the Grind’s talented baristas who add their own charm and personality to each cup.
Their creativity had seen some additions to the traditional coffee menu, such as the Drop Shot, served as the name suggests, and the Adrenalin Hit – five shots of the good stuff poured into a mega mug.
All produce on the menu is locally sourced with the meals freshly prepared and served on rustic boards, and several of the couple’s family members contributing their talents.
The emphasis is on quality and enjoyment, reflecting the owners’ commitment to good food delivered with warmth and consumed with passion.
“We love our food and our coffee and we want everyone else to enjoy it as much as we do,” Mr McTighe said.
The Grind recently added slow cooked pulled beef and pork rolls to its weekday line-up.
The melt-in-your-mouth meat is heaped into sweet French brioche and topped with homemade rustic slaw and lashings of gravy.
On weekends, it’s a specially cooked menu boasting a modern twist on some traditional flavors with a dash of Spanish heritage.
Free-range eggs and gluten free options come standard.
Catering for special events is yet another function of Suburban Grind.
Orders can be taken by phone or email and are packaged in environmentally friendly, recycled cardboard boxes and paper bags.
Suburban Grind Cafe is located in front of Coles at the Lynbrook Village Shopping Centre, Lynbrook Boulevard, Lynbrook.
