CASEY kids have proven they are up to the reading challenge.
This term students from Hillsmeade Primary School in Narre Warren South and Kilberry Valley Primary School in Hampton Park participated in the Premiers Reading Challenge.
The reading challenge, now in its 10th year, aims to encouraging children to read broadly.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley was joined by former Victorian Premier John Cain when she visited both schools on Thursday 6 November to congratulate them on their achievements in the challenge.
“Without fail Kilberry Valley Primary School steps up and this year was no exception, with over 800 students participating,” Ms Graley said.
“Of those students, an incredible 84 read 100 books, topping last year’s effort.
“Hillsmeade Primary School also got into the action this year with 45 students participating and three who read 50 books.
“The students at our local schools have once again shown they are champion readers and role models for the rest of the state.”
Ms Graley said both she and Mr Cain were impressed by the way the students had taken to the challenge with so much passion.
“Literacy is such an important part of learning and improving so it’s terrific to see so many students developing a love of reading,” she said.
“There is nothing quite like the sense of wonder and excitement a good book provides and I’m so glad to see local students discovering this for themselves.”
