PUTTING her name on the Victorian athletics map, Casey Little Athletics Centre’s Caity McCormick made it back-to-back state championship victories in shotput.
McCormick, 11, from Beaconsfield, ably defended her shotput title as she relished the competition at the Little Athletics State Track and Field Championships last month.
She put her shotput crown beyond the reach of her competitors in the girls’ under-11 event as she was the only competitor to put the shot beyond 10 metres.
“Gold in the shotput and silver for discus and I came seventh in javelin and it was a PB (personal best),” McCormick said.
“I’ve been into it since I was five.
“I just started doing running and then I started concentrating on throwing events more.”
Her first throw proved strong enough to take the championship as she eclipsed 10.28 metres.
“Felt pretty good to win it as last year I got a gold for shotput as well,” McCormick said.
She won a silver medal for the under-11 discus – with a best throw of 29.27 metres – and also finished seventh in the javelin (19.61m) to round out her stellar meet at Albert Park’s Lakeside Stadium.
Her throws in the discus and javelin were personal bests to cap off an amazing summer season for the field event up-and-comer.
For now it’s back to her winter passions – tennis with Upper Beaconsfield and netball for the Beaconsfield junior, where she loves to roam the goaler’s arc as a goalshooter or goalkeeper.
Caity wanted to thank her parents, her first coach Paul and current coach Bernie for their support.
