Council jumps for joy over frog award

A SPECIAL environmental project in Casey was crowned a winner in last week’s Keep Australia Beautiful awards.
The City of Casey’s Frog Hollow Reserve Enhancement Project won the Protection of the Environment category at the Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria (KABV) Sustainable Cities Awards which recognise positive environmental actions taken by councils.
Casey Mayor Mick Morland commended those involved with the Frog Hollow initiative during the awards on Friday 12 June.
“The Frog Hollow Reserve Enhancement Project is a continuation of the co-operative relationship between council, Friends of Frog Hollow Reserve, Port Phillip and Westernport Catchment Management Authority, Melbourne Water and industry experts,” he said.
“What was once a bare sporting field and water treatment pond in Endeavour Hills is now a picturesque frog habitat, wetland and native reserve which is enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
“This partnership has already seen more than 80,000 indigenous trees plants and grasses planted, more than 1200 cubic metres of mulched garden beds, several kilometres of shared pathways, boardwalks and bridge links and three community notice boards.”
The City of Casey’s Old Cheese Factory 150 Year Anniversary Celebration also received a highly commended recognition in the Cultural Heritage section, while 12 other Casey projects were finalists across the different categories.
