THE $49 million upgrade of a stretch of Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road is nearing completion.
Roads Minister and Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan inspected the site between Pound and Thompsons Road on Friday with Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley, as the upgrade reaches its final stages.
The project, which started in January last year, will include three lanes in each direction between Ormond Road and Glasscocks Road, with two lanes in each direction on other sections.
The intersection of Ormond Road and Glasscocks Road has also been widened to cater for more traffic.
New traffic lights at the intersection of Rosebank Road and Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road will also allow for better traffic flow through the busy intersection.
“We want the local community to travel safely and spend less time stuck in traffic,” Mr Donnellan said.
“This project caters for all road users and will make sure cyclists and pedestrians can move around the community safely.”
An upgrade of the Greaves and Pound Roads intersection, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, was also announced by Labor in March.
It will be included as part of the government’s facelift of Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road.
Savings from the original Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road project will be used towards the Greaves Road intersection upgrade, which was not included in initial plans
It’s believed roughly 29,000 vehicles use this stretch of Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road, near the Greaves Road intersection, every day.
