MORE than 78 Berwick College students have made their debut thanks to Rotarians.
Demand for the annual ritual was so high that the Rotary Club of Berwick organised three presentation balls to accommodate the Year 11 students.
The debutantes and their partners dressed in formal attire for the big event at The Grand on Cathies in Wantirna on 19, 20 and 21 May and arrived in a fleet of Hummer stretch limousines.
Rotary Club of Berwick spokesman Sam McCurdy said the couples completed 10 weeks of dancing practice under the tuition of mother and daughter dance teachers Judy Blackhurst and Joanne Mills.
Students had final practice sessions before guests arrived to iron out any last minute problems.
School captains presented the couples to the dignitaries – Rotary Club of Berwick president Gus Dominguez and his wife Viviana on the first night, City of Casey Mayor Mick Morland the second and Cr Morland and principal Kerri Bosch the third.
Mr McCurdy said the debutantes and partners then performed a series of dances for their parents, relatives and friends.
Following the formalities, guests joined the couples on the floor to dance the night away.
“The presentation balls are so popular that current Year 10 students are already planning to participate in next year’s balls,” Mr McCurdy said.
