Firebug teens caught red-handed

TWO 14-year-old boys were caught in the act when they started a grass fire in Berwick over the weekend.
Local residents of Cooney Close rushed to the scene when they noticed smoke coming from a storm drain at the end of the court.
Members from the Narre Warren Police Station noticed the pair suspiciously loitering near the storm drain and observed the teenagers until they saw smoke.
The grass fire was put out swiftly by locals, police and the Berwick CFA, Detective Senior Sergeant Rodney Moroney said.
“The two boys have been arrested and will be charged by summons,” Det Sen Sgt Moroney said.
“This is a warning to anyone that we are out there and we do notice and you will get caught.
“The dangers around this time of year mean that fire could have had severe consequences.”
