The long-awaited return of the greatest big band of the 1940s, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, is coming to Casey for a concert spectacular.
Direct from the United States, the world-famous Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform their unforgettable music of the 1940s from the golden era of swing at Casey’s Bunjil Arts Centre on Tuesday 31 October.
Featuring 24 musicians, singers and dancers, the presentation highlights the great ‘Big Band’ hits, the original Glenn Miller arrangements, the music of The Andrews Sisters, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and the romantic World War II melodies made famous by Vera Lynn.
Music which captivated millions of people worldwide will be brought together on stage in a nostalgic concert spectacular.
The concert will also celebrate the Glenn Miller Orchestra’s 80th and feature dance routines by the Broadway Swing Dancers.
Still heard worldwide, The Glenn Miller musical arrangements are timeless icons of American culture such as Chattanooga Choo-Choo, In the Mood, Tuxedo Junction, A String of Pearls, Moonlight Serenade, Little Brown Jug and Pennsylvania 6-5000 – music hits which have captivated millions of people.
Musical Director Rick Gerber said the make-up of the Glenn Miller Orchestra was an exact duplication of the original Miller band of the early ’40s with five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones, piano, bass and drums plus both a male and female singer.
“The Glenn Miller Orchestra is a colourful and flamboyant evening filled with fun and nostalgia of the ’30s and ’40s. Our unique jazz sound is sought all around the world and in addition to re-creating the golden era of swing, we bring to life the colour, costumes and spirit. Having travelled across the globe, The Glenn Miller Orchestra is delighted to be bringing iconic tunes such as In The Mood and Moonlight Serenade to Australia,” Mr Gerber said.
“This will be our fourth extensive tour of Australia and we will be all over the map for about nine weeks. Previously we toured Australia in 2012, 2014 and 2015.”
