EARLIER

Retribution Day arrived for convicted South-Eastern hoons – and their cars – at a Dandenong South wrecking yard recently.
Eight vehicles seized by Taskforce Regarder police and forfeited for destruction were crushed on 19 January.
The convicted drivers had been taking part in illegal hoon meets in Lynbrook, Mulgrave and Dandenong South in November 2015 to January 2016.
They included a 25-year-old Clyde North man who was charged with reckless conduct endangering serious injury.
He received a 12-month community corrections order and 18-month licence disqualification in June 2016.
His seized maroon Ford sedan has now been crushed.
A 30-year-old Hampton Park man had his black Holden ute after being convicted of the same charge.
A 20-year-old Cranbourne East man’s blue Ford sedan will be destroyed in coming days after its LPG tank was removed, police say.
On 24 January, Taskforce Regarder police arrested two people accused of planning and organising dangerous hoon meets in the South East between June and September 2017.
They were arrested as part of raids in Moorabbin, Bentleigh East, Endeavour Hills and Ferntree Gully that morning.
Detective Inspector Mick Daly said the offenders faced serious criminal charges, including conduct endangering serious injury.
“Police have no tolerance for people who plan, organise or engage in deliberate, risky behaviour at hoon meets,” Det Insp Daly said.
“These irresponsible people, including the event organisers and drivers, place their lives and the lives of others at serious risk.”
Det Insp Daly said there was a “plague” of hoon driving despite lives been lost due to the activity.
The taskforce has arrested more than 55 offenders and seized 24 cars involved in illegal hoon meets since November 2015.
