Australian Red Cross Lifeblood is bringing a pop-up donation centre to Narre Warren in order to save lives, thanks to the help of generous locals.

The donation centre launched on Monday 28 February and will collect donations until Friday 11 March.

“Over the course of the week, we’re hoping to collect around 975 donations,” a Lifeblood spokesperson said.

“With every donation helping to save up to three lives, that’s nearly 3,000 lives saved.

“We still need around 170 additional donors to book in for this visit.”

The coronavirus pandemic has disturbed the number of donations that would usually be received in a year.

Around one in three Australians will need blood at some point in their lives, with 33,000 donation collected every week across the nation to meet patient needs.

“The need for blood never takes a break, regardless of whether it’s the weekend, a public holiday or during a pandemic,” the spokesperson said.

“It could be for those involved in road accidents, cancer patients or people with blood disorders, women experiencing complications during childbirth and countless others.”

The pop up is located at the Narre Warren North Hall and will return from Monday 30 May to Friday 10 June, Monday 29 August to Friday 9 September and again from Monday 28 November to Friday 9 December.
