Expressions of Interest for the City of Casey’s Community Leadership Program opened on Monday 11 March.

First launched in 2021, the program aims to represent Casey’s diverse community and support Casey residents aged 18 and over, who have a desire to make a difference and engage in community life.

The program will provide free training for new, emerging, and existing community leaders in Casey who want to further develop their leadership skills and learn about community engagement and local government.

City of Casey chair of administrators Noelene Duff PSM said the Council was committed to empowering Casey’s leaders now and into the future.

“This program greatly benefits individual participants and their community groups, as well as our wider community through strengthening networks and local democracy,” she said.

“Having delivered the program for the last three years, Council has seen a diverse range of passionate and dedicated individuals complete the program and go on to deliver many successful programs for the community.

“I am looking forward to meeting and supporting this year’s participants.”

This year’s program will run from June to October 2024 and will include 10 face-to-face workshops — nine Tuesday evening sessions and one Saturday session.

The workshops will cover leadership styles, personal and community leadership, communication and presentation skills, building community capacity, working with volunteers and local resources, and networking, understanding how local government works and how to contribute to the democratic process, and good governance, decision-making, project planning, and goal setting.

At the conclusion of the program, graduates will have the chance to participate in ongoing networking opportunities where they can gain practical experience in leading community and Council-supported projects.

Expressions of Interest close at 5pm on Friday 19 April.

The selection process will include an informal interview, with a maximum of 30 participants selected to participate in the program.
