Nightworks on the Clyde Road Upgrade have officially begun, marking a significant milestone in what is set to be another lengthy upgrade.

As part of these early works, specialist crews are working to protect the gas pipeline, relocating essential underground services, and carefully cutting and removing pieces of the road to not disturb the existing pipework, which delivers critical supply across the south east.

Once relocations are complete, a new concrete protection slab will be poured to provide long lasting protection to the pipeline before major works begin.

The protection and relocation measures will make room for the new lanes and shared walking and cycling path along Clyde Road, and minimise the risk of a service disruption once major works start later this year.

These major works will involve additional lanes on Clyde Road between the Princes Freeway and Kangan Drive, upgrades to both freeway intersections and Kangan Drive/Sir Gustav Nossal Boulevard intersection, and the widening of the existing freeway bridge.

In doing so, The Clyde Road Upgrade aims to relieve bottlenecks for residents, commuters and users of nearby health and educational institutions including Monash Health – Casey Hospital, St John of God Hospital, Federation University and Chisholm Institute.

The upgrade also will build and upgrade 1.2km of shared walking and cycling paths to give more safe and easy travel options, and install new street lighting, road signage, drainage and landscaping.

Works to relocate water services along a section of Kangan Drive are scheduled to start later this month, and utility relocation is set to be complete in late 2024.
