BEACONSFIELD NETBALL

13White: Bye.

13Blue: Beaconsfield 16 def by Berwick 30

On Saturday we headed across the creek to Edwin Flack Reserve to take on top-of-the-ladder Berwick. Undermanned with injury and illness we welcomed Molly, Paige and Eva from 13 Whites into the team and we thank them for a fantastic job. Our girls came out focused and firing this week. At training we discussed the importance of maintaining our centre passes and capitalising on any turnovers we could. It was important we made good passing choices and for the first half we did exactly that. It was a thrilling two quarters going goal for goal in a great display of skill from both teams. Our girls showed lovely patience in attack using resets when needed and our different goaling combination of Ella and Mia worked beautifully together keeping the circle moving and open allowing us plenty of shots at goal which they converted very accurately.

The second half saw Berwick slowly edge ahead, with lack of available rotations and weariness starting to show. Despite this the Beacy girls fought right until the very end never giving up and playing some of their best netball this season. The hard work they put in at training each week is starting to show with improvements being made every game we play. Well done girls, I’m very proud of you all.

Awards: Over the Road Cafe – Mia Spencer. Domino’s – Nicola Henshaw.

15 White: Beaconsfield 35 def Gembrook 7

The 15 White girls took on Gembrook at its home ground this week. Beaconsfield started strong with a 10-goal haul in the first quarter with Lily Boswell and Janae Lewis combing well. We continued to steam ahead throughout the remainder of the game giving us the flexibility to try different combinations like Janae in C, Chloe in WA and Summer in GS. A particular standout was Celina Bramley in GD who took many intercepts and transitioned the ball down the court beautifully. Due to injury and illness we were able to share a special moment as a team where Summer and Lily’s sisters, Charlotte and Chloe from 13 Whites, filled in for us and did an amazing job when they took to the court! We thank them for stepping up and hope they enjoyed their experience!

Dominos Award: Celina Bramley. Over The Road Cafe: Janae Lewis.

15 Blue: Beaconsfield 23 def Berwick 6

Our 15 Blues headed across the creek to Berwick this week. We had a chat at training about being more head strong and not allowing teams to take control and dictate play early. With that we took the lead at the first break 6-3. We continued our control and consistent ball movement throughout the next quarter to take a five-goal lead at half time. Our decision making this week, especially with our timing and passing, was so much better and more consistent. With one our main centre players out with injury our other mid court players needed to step up and they definitely did that. So proud of this group of girls who put together a solid four quarters of netball and pulled together as a team. Great win girls.

Awards: Over the Road – Alicia Clegg. Domino’s – Chelsea Marini.

But the awards could have gone to every player on the team.

17 White: Beaconsfield 42 def Gembrook 10

On Saturday the 17 Whites took on Gembrook (without Gerry). Coming into the game not knowing what to expect as we have not faced them before, the girls took the game to them scoring a few early goals. The girls kept them almost scoreless for the first quarter but we struggled to find our tempo and our shots wouldn’t drop in the second and third quarters. Overall we continued to play well, keeping a strong defensive presence throughout the whole game and pressed hard when we lost the ball, stopping the ball before it left our goal third!

Awards: Twisted Sister – Chloe: strong defensive pressure through the mid court getting multiple touches and also amazing feeding into the circle.

Domino’s – Maddy: Absolutely amazing defence throughout the whole game pulling intercept after intercept.

17 Blue: Beaconsfield 18 def by Seville 31

On Saturday we came up against the top of the ladder, Seville. We knew we had to bring four quarters of consistent, strong netball, and we did. It was brilliant. The girls fought every step of the way, contesting any ball that was in sight. As each quarter progressed, the girls continued to capitalise on any ball available. In the end we lost, but it was brilliant to watch the girls keep Seville to a minimum.

Awards: Domino’s – Wilson. Twisted Sister – Miller.

C Grade: Beaconsfield 22 def by Monbulk 27

We headed to up to Monbulk on Saturday to play on the Hawks home turf. Once again, Monbulk were a great force for our team to come up against. Each quarter was tight and both teams would not let their guard down. It was a fantastic game with Monbulk taking the lead in the final minutes of the game. Well done girls, it was a great game to watch and learn from.

Awards: Domino’s – Ava. Over the Road – Kayce. Whiteboards – Fran.

B Grade: Beaconsfield 32 def by Monbulk 48

Beacy started our game against Monbulk very well despite some tweaks to our line up from the previous week. Monbulk was strong competition for the girls, but our team were able to stay with them for much of the game. Defensively when working as a solid unit we were able to turn over ball, and when we played with great flow and freedom, we were showing some of our best netball. Unfortunately, we were unable to stick with the higher-ranked opponents, but the team will be better off playing against solid competition.

Awards: Whiteboards Direct – Kayla Voss. Domino’s – Kasey Brookes MacMillan. Over the Road – Jess Coburn.

A Grade: Beaconsfield 39 def by Monbulk 55

Our A Grade team was hoping to reverse our result from round one as we took on Monbulk. We showed great fight out on court for the first half playing against solid competition. Again we are putting out great patches of netball, but haven’t been able to continue our momentum in the second half. Unfortunately, we started to fall away, unable to match Monbulk. Defensively it was pleasing to see the girls working as a solid unit throughout the game, trying new tactics to stifle Monbulk’s play and win ball back.

Awards: Whiteboards Direct: Zoe Dunkley. Domino’s: Jordan Lang. Over the Road: Jaime Quinn.
