Free clinic opens

A WOMAN has opened a new medical centre in Narre Warren, offering refugees in the Casey community free medical services.
Doctor Amena Azizi, who is from Afghanistan, said she wanted to set up the medical centre in Casey to assist the refugees with the language barriers they often faced in Australia.
“I’m offering free medical services for everyone in the community. There will be no charges,” she said.
“I really want to reach out to the refugees in the area and help them.”
The Casey Gate Medical Centre opened its doors along Victor Crescent on 9 August.
Dr Azizi, who has been a doctor for 13 years, moved from Afghanistan to Australia 20 years ago.
She speaks four languages.
Dr Azizi says she specialises in heart and chest problems for men and women and also has a focus on children’s health.
She believes there are more than 1000 refugee families living in the area.
“My main aim is to help people and make them happy,” she said.
Dr Azizi has received “positive” feedback from the community since opening her medical centre.
“I’ve been very busy every day,” she said.
“On Monday I saw 35 patients. 12 of those were from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.”
