A BEVVY of beauties are racing to represent Berwick in the Star News Group Australian Grand Prix Grid Girls Competition.
Next Tuesday, 20 girls will compete for the title and thousands of dollars worth of prizes at the Berwick Village Chamber of Commerce Gala fund-raising night.
Chamber president Michael Hall said the 20 grid girls represented the cream of a talented field and would be a major feature of the night, with the girls being involved in welcoming and hosting guests.
He said guests would vote for the winner, and the chamber was grateful for the support of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation in giving the successful entrant a chance in the final squad of grid girls.
Mr Hall said this would be part of the main event, the Australian Formula One Grand Prix, on Sunday, 2 April.
“The AGP has been most supportive, even though we are not running the street festival this year,” he said.
“We intend, however, to raise enough funds on the night to help us put on a bigger and better show next year.
“We want to make the Grand Prix Festival a fixture on the calendar of events for the southeastern region, where, incidentally there is strong support for F1 and motor sport in general.”
Mr Hall said guests at the action-packed fun night, held for Berwick’s leading business and professional people, would hear from touring car legend and four-time Australian Touring Car champion, Allan Moffatt.
“They will also take part in the excitement of a memorabilia auction, featuring rare and valuable collectables such as a hat from the inaugural Berwick Grand Prix Festival 2005.
“The hat is autographed by former Ferrari teammates Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello.”
The evening will be held at the Central Star Auto Haus Mercedes Benz showroom and is proudly sponsored by the Star News Group, which publishes the News.
