On 2 April, the amateur swimming club will hold an encouragement event in an attempt to lure Australia’s next swimming star to the pool.
The encouragement meet will be held at the Cranbourne Indoor Heated Pool, in Grant Street and age groups range from eight and under to 14 and over.
With events including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, competitors have a chance to win medals in a friendly competition environment.
The swim meet is specifically designed for children new to the sport and ribbons will be awarded to all competitors, with medals going to the placegetters.
Publicity officer Jo Helm said she hoped the Commonwealth Games swimming program would boost interest in the event.
“The children will see the swim stars on the television and hopefully they will want to get involved in the sport,’ she said.
Entry forms can be downloaded at www.caseytigersharks.com.au, picked up from the Casey ARC or Cranbourne Pool or by phoning club vice-president Michelle Hardy on 0408 363 540.
Maybe Ian Thorpe’s replacement is lurking somewhere in the City of Casey.
