THE Doveton shopping precinct will receive safety and environmental improvements, thanks to a major funding boost.
Victorian Government’s Public Safety Infrastructure Fund program has allocated $200,000 for the regeneration of Autumn Place, Doveton.
Casey Council will use the money for environmental and security improvements to the major open space opposite the shopping precinct
City of Casey mayor Amanda Stapledon was joined by councillor Wayne Smith and Minister for Crime Prevention Edward O’Donohue last week .
Cr Stapledon said the major open space would be redesigned to increase natural surveillance in the park in an effort to improve the general amenity of the park, improve community perceptions of public safety and assist with the reduction of anti-social behaviour.
Cr Stapledon said public toilet amenities would be also redesigned, and new landscaping, improved lighting and additional seating and fencing would help improve community access to facilities, retail outlets and social interaction.
“Doveton is one of the oldest suburbs within Casey, and the community has worked in partnership with council, via the Doveton Eumemmerring Neighbourhood Renewal Project and the Doveton and Eumemmerring Community Township Plan, to deliver substantial improvements in the area,” Cr Stapledon said.
“This project will build on those achievements, providing environmental and security infrastructure improvements to encourage a sense of ownership for the rightful users of this space – the local residents and traders. We’d like Autumn Place, Doveton, to impart a feeling of safety, promoting a valued and accessible public place for the community to enjoy.”
