THE Cranbourne Turf Club is gearing up for a big weekend of racing, fashion and a grand unveiling for the TAB Cranbourne Cup Carnival.
The club will officially open its $4 million redeveloped grandstand on Monday, just in time for the cup carnival which kicks off with night racing on Friday 10 October.
The redeveloped facility boasts a fully enclosed glass panelled grandstand and the completed 700‐seat function centre, which will be open for the public to enjoy on race days with extensive bar and food options.
Cranbourne Turf Club will commence the cup carnival with night racing for the Inglis Pinker Pinker Plate, which will also launch the Browns Sawdust and Shavings Night Racing Season 2014-15.
Racing will spring into action at about 6.45pm and continue through until after 10pm, with a strong field of trainers expected to contest the $100,000 Inglis Pinker Pinker Plate feature race.
The night will be a great warm up to the TAB Cranbourne Cup which will follow on Sunday 12 October.
The biggest annual event on City of Casey’s social calendar, cup day will offer something for everyone from racing fanatics to those who just want a fun day out.
From a racing aspect, the day will have a 10-race program including the feature $200,000 TAB Cranbourne Cup and the $100,000 Procon Developments Apache Cat Classic.
There will be plenty of action trackside, with former Hunters and Collectors front man Mark Seymour to perform for an hour before the running of the cup.
Fashionable fillies will also compete for $5000 worth of prizes in the hotly contested Fashions on the Field.
Cranbourne Turf Club chief executive Neil Bainbridge encouraged people to head along to next weekend’s carnival and join in the action.
“The new grandstand will be officially open for business, there will be action packed racing and plenty of fashion and entertainment trackside,” he said.
“We warm up with a great night of racing on the Friday, before the main event on Sunday.
“From a racing perspective, the field for the cup and other feature races gets better every year with some of the best trainers and jockeys wanting to compete at Cranbourne and I’m sure this year will be no exception.
“With the addition of Mark Seymour playing live, a DJ playing tunes throughout the day, attractive prize pool in the Fashions on the Field and plenty of children’s activities – the TAB Cranbourne Cup Carnival really is a great day out for people of all ages.”
The TAB Cranbourne Cup is proudly sponsored by TAB, Procon Developments, Highview Accounting Services, De Bortoli Wines, Chandler Macleod, Cranbourne Holden, Condo’s Horse Transport, John Duff and Co and Hertz car rental.
