Arts thaw winter’s freeze

Live music, art history and children’s entertainment pack Casey’s three-month Winter Arts Festival from 1 June.

Highlights include the Home of the Boyds: Harkaway and ‘The Grange’ exhibition and casual Knit and Stitch sessions on Friday afternoons in June.

There’s a Melbourne Chamber Orchestra performance of Mozart and the Classical Age, live acoustic music at the Old Cheese Factory and a Melbourne International Comedy Festival roadshow.

In June, art lovers have a chance to take part in Bollywood dance, craft and painting workshops, author high teas and Lynbrook’s winter ukelele festival.

Festival attendance grew by more than 300 per cent last year, setting the stage for a bigger 2018 program, says mayor Geoff Ablett.

The bevy of studio tours, concerts, art workshops, exhibitions and extensive school holiday attractions were great exposure to Casey’s artists and art groups, he said.

“As our municipality continues to grow it’s vital that we provide opportunities for our community to experience and enjoy the arts close to home.

“Thankfully, we are fortunate enough to have a precinct such as Bunjil Place at our doorstep which helps to facilitate the progression of arts in Casey.”

All events are free or low cost.
