Community honours heroes

The Memorial service was organised by the NSAA South East sub-branch, led by President Mike Smith, and included a march of Navy cadets, Airforce cadets, Air League cadets, Great War Association,National Servicemen’s Association, Berwick Scout Group, Major General Barry and Colonel George McKenzie.

The National Servicemen’s Association of Australia (NSAA) south east sub-branch held its annual memorial service at Buchnan Park in Berwick on Sunday, 14 October.

The event was well supported with many servicemen and their families in attendance, as well as MP Anthony Byrne.

This annual memorial service is an occasion where the community can remember and honour the 287,000 young men who were called up for service in the Navy, Army and Air Force between 1951 and 1972, and the 212 people who lost their lives in conflict.
