Rising rugby stars at Fountain Gate Secondary College have had a taste of competing on the world stage.

Twenty-three students of the College’s Rugby Academy completed a 10 day tour of New Zealand, competing in three games against New Zealand schools.

They also had the opportunity to tour the world class facilities of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union and New Zealand’s All Blacks Sevens Program.

“The students not only enjoyed being immersed in rugby culture but also experienced Maori and New Zealand culture at its finest, visiting Mitai Maori Village, the Luge and Gondola in Rotorua and touring Eden Park in Auckland,” College Principal Pete Hanratty said.

The college was thrilled to fly home with three wins over Tangaroa College, Mt Maunganui College, and Lynfield College.Tim Leau of Year 11 said: “The crowds were really energetic so it was great to play there and all of the teams were very welcoming, it was an incredible trip,”

The College is looking forward to new challenging games in New Zealand, Queensland and New South Wales.

Mr Hanratty said the College would like to thank their sponsors, d3 tape and BLK Clothing as well as all those that donated and bought fundraising kits to raise funds.
