Food and garden waste coming to Casey

From Monday 3 August, Casey residents will be able to put food scraps into their garden waste bin so it can all be turned into compost.

Residents don’t need to register for the service as current household garden waste bins will automatically become a food and garden waste bin. There will be no changes to the frequency or day of Casey’s kerbside collection services, council said.

For those who want to use their food scraps for home composting to help build your own nutrient-rich soil, residents can apply for a rebate for a compost bin, Bokashi bucket or a worm farm as part of Council’s composting program.

Council said the changes aim to better serve the community and make the service more sustainable, while also supporting the Victorian Government’s Recycling Victoria 10-year plan.

To further support changes with the state’s waste and recycling sector, Council also partnered with Cleanaway last year.  New recycling and waste trucks collecting the community’s waste and recycling will be on the road soon.

“By collecting household food scraps and garden waste together, and turning them into compost, we can all reduce the amount of waste going to landfill,” council said.
