STINGRAYS, state representatives and likely draftees have risen to the top of Hallam Senior College’s football program.
Coaches Manny Peresso and Brett Alexander’s football academies have found their captains and leadership groups for 2014.
The boys team will be led by Dandenong Stingrays/Narre Warren midfielder Ben Giobbi and Matt Scoczynski and the girls will be headed up by Victorian Youth Girls representative Jenna Edwards and All-Australian Karly Tapner Giobbi, who is a couple of months off with recovery from a hip injury.
Giobbi said the honour of captaincy was siginificant as he had always looked up to the past captains of the school.
“It’s a good achievement for me and definitely one of my proudest moments,” Giobbi said.
“A lot of good captains have come through here like Jack Scoczynski and other people like that and it’s a pretty good achievement to lead the school and get us into a higher grade again this year.”
Tapner and Edwards said it was a great honour to lead the women’s team and hopefully take them back to the state championship grand final and win back the title.
“Yeah it’s pretty good, we’ve got a pretty good legacy with all the captains we’ve had, so developing a lot more girls this year is a pretty big honour,” Tapner said.
“Especially with all the hard work Brett puts into it, to put faith in us to lead the girls is amazing.”
“Redemption from last year – we want to get back to state finals and hopefully we take it back home after winning the past three except for last year,” Edwards said.
